End of August Work Days

Hey Everyone,

As summer wraps up, our workdays are also coming to a close. We have TWO coming up that we’d like to call attention to. This summer the attendance at work days has been… lackluster. We steadily have the same 2 or 3 individuals putting in most of the work and if we’re going to keep building and maintaining trail we need more hands! Unless riding through brambles is your thing- if that’s the case, all the more power to ya. If not, here are two work days to try to attend if possible:

Where: 64 Bridge Trail

When: Wednesday the 20th, 1pm-5pm

Why: The East Side is looking a little neglected. We’ll be using this time to weedwhack, weedwhip, lop branches, and rake. If you can make it, please email yomamba@yahoo.com by Tuesday evening so we can make sure to have tools for you. Even if you can come for an hour that would be appreciated!

Opportunity #2:

Where: Strong Falls Trailhead

When: Saturday the 23rd, 9am-Noon

Why: Work on trail 820. If we can complete this loop, it will create a nice 5-mile green loop. This loop is our best bet for establishing a snowbike loop, so we would love to get it done by winter. Also, come on, look at that picture of Chuck up there- who wouldn’t want to work with that burst of joy?!

See you on the trails!

MAMBA Winter Meeting 2025

We have reserved the WPS room at the Stephenson Public Library on Tuesday, Feb.18th, for a general meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. We need to discuss 501C3 status, liability insurance, and, most importantly, set a volunteer work schedule for trail finish work at Strong Falls and trail maintenance and construction at Hwy 64.

To this end, those of you involved in the local racing/organized ride event world, please bring a list of dates for us to schedule around. We would like to schedule volunteer days for the whole trail-building season and post them online and at bike shops in the area. We did get Pete’s Garage and Suamico Cycle to post our last two workdays, and it did help to bring out some new faces!

Hope to see you there!

Starting the Strong Falls Trail System

Back in July of 2022, a few MAMBA members headed up to the northern part of Marinette county to meet with the newly installed Rock Solid & IMBA Trail Solution teams. Trails were mapped out by TrailSolutions with a grand plan of 50 miles to be completed over several years. Over the next several months the first stage of the trail system was set to be worked on and completed for a hopeful late fall completion date.

While we were up there we met with crew members and had the opportunity to walk the flagged trail system, getting to hear the vision for the trails. Walking the system gave us a new appreciation for mapping and design. While we only walked a green section of trail, we were very impressed with the natural features that promise to make the trail interesting!

The flagging system for the trails was elaborate yet easy to follow. Between flagging tape and “trail hub” maps you could walk the whole trail-to-be without getting lost. The building crews and Marinette County administration set aside some beginner-level trails for volunteers to build and learn how to maintain, and we were able to walk part of the section we were slotted to help build out.

Leaving the initial walk-through the only thing we have to say is “GET EXCITED”. These trails are going to be exceptional.

Now A Local IMBA Chapter

MAMBA (Marinette Area Mountain Bike Association) is pleased to announce that we are officially a local chapter of the International Mountain Bicycling Association.

By being a local partner of IMBA we will have access to resources that can help us build the mountain biking infrastructure in our area.

MAMBA IMBA local Partner

What does this mean for YOU?

Regarding the Highway 64 trails located west of Marinette, you may have noticed no trail maintenance is being done. The DNR is now requiring our group to sign a Land Use Agreement to be able to maintain the trails. Part of this agreement also requires MAMBA to carry a Liability Insurance Policy to cover members who would be working to maintain the trails.

The premium for this policy is approximately $900. When you join our new Chapter through IMBA you will be helping to pay this premium and ensure our trails are maintained.

With an individual membership, you pay $39 to IMBA. IMBA keeps $15 to help support their organization and the other $24 is sent directly to MAMBA. A family membership is $50 with $15 going to IMBA and $35 comes back to our local group

By joining IMBA, MAMBA can also offer a tax-deductible benefit to businesses that donate to MAMBA.
This is an exciting time for all of us trail users!

Please help us out to keep the 64 trails open by joining MAMBA’s new Chapter- Ride on!
