Back in July of 2022, a few MAMBA members headed up to the northern part of Marinette county to meet with the newly installed Rock Solid & IMBA Trail Solution teams. Trails were mapped out by TrailSolutions with a grand plan of 50 miles to be completed over several years. Over the next several months the first stage of the trail system was set to be worked on and completed for a hopeful late fall completion date.
While we were up there we met with crew members and had the opportunity to walk the flagged trail system, getting to hear the vision for the trails. Walking the system gave us a new appreciation for mapping and design. While we only walked a green section of trail, we were very impressed with the natural features that promise to make the trail interesting!
The flagging system for the trails was elaborate yet easy to follow. Between flagging tape and “trail hub” maps you could walk the whole trail-to-be without getting lost. The building crews and Marinette County administration set aside some beginner-level trails for volunteers to build and learn how to maintain, and we were able to walk part of the section we were slotted to help build out.
Leaving the initial walk-through the only thing we have to say is “GET EXCITED”. These trails are going to be exceptional.
